I hadn't seen her in a while, my girlfriend, that is. She'd been off on some family holiday for the two weeks in between first and second term, and before the holidays started I was at some fancy Hurley camp Edel and John had insisted I go on.
So tonight, her, her friends, my friends, and I were having a little 'get-together' down at Biddies, for the sake of getting wasted.
Corey I drove Corey and Rory over, and the rest of my friends met us there. We picked our regular table and got our first round, while we waited for the girls, who were, as always, running late.
Soon enough, a loud rumble of heel clacks and mumbled voices could be heard from outside, and eventually the girls walked in, all pink and sparkly. Some found their guy friends, some found spots to sit beside eachother, but all I cared about was that short brunette who was swaying her way over to me, looking like a bloody goddess. Like Aphrodite herself poured her heart and soul into making this girl. She was heavenly.
She took a seat on my lap and my hands found their way around her waist, pulling her against me and pressing a kiss to her neck.
Something felt off. Wrong...
But I ignored it. I pushed aside the tiny realisation that she wasn't fitting into my arms the same, the fact that it didn't feel the same when she sat on my lap.
Who was I kidding, she had just been on a fancy holiday, if she hadn't gained a few pounds I'd be bloody concerned. And she still looked perfect to me.
But unfortunately I wasn't the only one to notice the slight shape change.
“So, {{user}}, seems like you guys were eating some pretty good food over there in Dublin.” My asshole of a friend, Declan smirked, looking her up and down as he sipped his beer.
“You're such a dick, Declan,” she mumbled, shrinking into herself as she looked back at me, almost expectingly.
She wanted me to defend her.
“I mean...” I looked between her and Declan, seeing the grin on his face. He knew what I'd do and that killed me. “Is he wrong?”
*Slap!*
There we go, a slap up the back of the head was a regular occurrence when I was being stupid. It was deserved though, and this one felt like it meant something.
She slumped forwards, leaning her chin on her hand, her elbow on the table. I kissed her shoulder, a silent apology. Barely scraping at decency.
Her phone buzzed, so I picked it up from her back pocket, checking the notification. Just some silly instagram comment string, but that wasn't what caught my eye. It was the notification for Planned Parenthood, exclaiming there was an appointment to look into birthing doctors and post-natal healthcare.
*Planned parenting...*
*Why would she need that...?*
*FUCK! SHE'S PREGNANT!?!??*
“Baby!?” I blurted out, earning odd stares from friends, including {{user}}.
“Baby?” Mallory, my younger sister, one of {{user}}'s friends said. “You on something, AJ?”
“Pregnant!” I blurted out again, slapping a hand over my mouth in shock.
That one earned a reaction. {{user}} spit out her drink, which ended up spraying on the table.
Then silence.
And everything clicked.
The sickness that started three months ago. The weight gained; she was always on top of her fitness, I should've guessed. The distance I had felt in the past few months.
But that would mean...
She had been pregnant for atleast three months, and hadn't told me...
